Work Program Jobs must:

  • Be on a McMaster campus/site
  • Not replace or subsidize existing positions
  • Not conflict with any existing collective agreements
  • Pay at least minimum wage

Work Program Subsidy

Fall/Winter Work Program  

$6.50/hour to a maximum subsidy of $1,500 (up to 10 hours per week)

Summer Work Program

$5.50/hour to maximum subsidy of $2,560 (up to 40 hours per week)

Helpful Hints

A successful job opening:

  • Is submitted by the deadline. See Important Dates for more information
  • Is within work program dates
  • Has a job code beginning with the prefix WPS (beginning Fall 2018)
  • Includes a primary recruiter and hiring manager

Helping Students

  • In your job posting, ask students to include a copy of their work program approval with their application
  • Job postings open March 1 for Summer and Aug. 10 for Fall/Winter
  • Students ineligible for work programs cannot be hired for work program positions
  • Students can only accept one work program position per term
  • Direct students to the Work Program page on the SFAS website
  • The work program approval is necessary to complete the application
