As you pursue your university studies, you are responsible for managing many resources and covering many expenses. Think of all the money that is coming to you in the form of scholarships, bursaries, earnings from employment, OSAP, etc., and all the money that is leaving your hands to cover tuition, meals, housing, books and other education-related costs. For many of you, this is your first experience with managing your own finances. Overwhelming? It doesn’t have to be, if you BUDGET!

Avoid financial stress - review your plan as you progress through
the academic year and make necessary adjustments. You may
find that you are spending more in one category (e.g. utilities)
and/or less in another and need to alter your plan. This is fine…just
remember that you are living on a student budget, so make careful
decisions. Be sure to consider needs versus wants! You never know
what surprises lie just around the next corner….
Keep in mind that a budget will maintain your good credit rating. Through careful planning you will be able to pay your bills on time, minimize debt and establish good spending habits.
